Can not open jpgs after saving to pix file

Taken with Sony and Nikon digital cameras. The pix are emailed to me: Then I
save them into My Pictures file, yes w/jpg extension. I go to open the pic
and it won't open, not with Windows Pic Viewer or Micro Photo Editor,
nothing!
"can not determine type", yeah, sure. Yawn......

Just a couple of thoughts:

1. Have you tried renaming the .jpg to .jpeg?
2. Can you preview the jpg's in My Computer with "Thumbnails" selected?
3. If you see the thumbnails, what happens when you double-click on one of
them?

Arnie H,

1. Have you tried renaming the .jpg to .jpeg? Yes. Still can't open them.
2. Can you preview the jpg's in My Computer with "Thumbnails" selected?
-Yes, other jpgs, saved from a digital camera and some stuff off the web from
months ago.
3. If you see the thumbnails, what happens when you double-click on one of
them? When I double click on the ones I can not open. Firstly, I see a
"thumbnail" that appears to have the windows logo in it. Secondly, I double
click: windows veiwer opens: "no preview available". Ok, Lastly, I try and
open the pic with windows photo editor: "can not recognize" or something of
that nature. No programs that windows offers, to open the pic, will open it,
nothing, not the paintbrush, not the photo editor, nothing.

What was the original extension on the pictures you received?

If not .jpg, perhaps some other format?

Just saving/renaming with .jpg extension does not automatically make them
jpgs.

You may have to employ a convertor before you can view as jpgs.

Download IrfanView and convert if necessary.
