unread messages

Hello,

One of my users found an interesting detail in outllook 2003/Windows XP pro.

When he logs on his Windows Xp box, he reads the following message '4 unread
messages' but .... there are no unread messages in OUtlook 2003 actually.

Later he downloads new mail from mail server and he is welcomed by the
following message '14 unread message' but ... only 13 messages are still
unread.

Platform: Office 2003 Pro no sp and Windows XP Pro SP2 completely updated
using Windows Update.

The PC was completely installed from scratch 3 days ago

Thanks.

Is he pulling email from hotmail or MSN perhaps? Also check the following:

Use TweakUI/Logon/Unread Mail and Repair/Unread Mail Count

Disable Unread Mail on the Welcome Screen (Line 100)

To change the count manually:

Start>Run>Regedit>navigate to this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[YourE-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
