I use Outlook as my default mail program, but had an account open in Outlook
Express. I deleted that accout while there were two unread messages in the
Inbox and now, everytime I come to my Windows log on screen, it shows that I
have two unread mail messages.

I went into registry, as per the help file, to remove the permission from
the key of the deleted account, and I no longer have the Unread Mail Message
showing. The key is:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail

I notice that two other deleted accounts are listed in this key.

My question is: Is it okay to delete these accounts from the Registry as
they no longer exist in Outlook Express? I don't want to take any chances
of screwing up the registry.

Thanks

Yes.

To remove an account or to change the count manually Go to:
Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail\[Your
E-Mail Address]. In the right pane modify: Message Count, Change it to 0.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UnreadMail. In
the right pane modify: MessageExpiryDays Change it to 0.
