Found this Freeware for 98SE users...

Self-extracting and self-installing pack like Microsoft's update
files. You cannot choice files individually. However, the pack
installs only required fixes for your system. Uninstallation is
possible from Add-Remove Programs.

This is only for WINDOWS 98 SECOND EDITION ENGLISH. It contains only
operating system updates. It does NOT contain Internet Explorer 6,
DirectX 9, Media Player 9 and their updates.

My experience with this download is disappointing, unfortunately.

I downloaded the first issue of this software (sesp1.exe) on 2004-02-20
and installed and ran it without any problems. I liked the W2000 theme,
although as I already had all the updates plus the faster defrag etc.,
there was not a lot of extra benefit.

On the strength of that, I downloaded the latest issue (sesp12.exe) on
2004-03-10 and, as advised in the majorgeeks link, installed it over the
previous version.

Unhappily, whenever I then rebooted Windows I got the dreaded BSOD with the
message:

<quote>
Invalid VxD dynamic link call from ESDI_506(03) + 0000 17E8 to device
"0026", Service A.

Your Windows configuration is invalid. Run the Windows Setup program again
to correct this problem.

So, my advice is: it's worth a try, but *back up* your system before you
install it - as the majorgeeks link says.

ESDI is related to hard drives. Maybe the mainboard EIDE/ATAPI driver
and this "update" won't communicate well.
