Unneeded services?

Could someone please point me in the direction of advice about what
services/apps are not needed, indeed, are oftentimes a nuisance, for a
standalone, non-network XP home SP2 user, the only person using this machine.
I'd really like to only be able to dial-up access to my ISP and THAT's IT.
No messenger; no Network Framework or MS Clients; no extras at all...
thanks in advance

Hi Patrick, here is a great site which explains what a service does and if
it's needed or not.If you change anything I suggest that you write what you
did on paper just in case.

thanks very much for that link, Map:
that was exactly what I was looking for!
