Strange settings in Docs & Settings etc

No idea what I have done, but I only recently did a complete reinstall of
Windows and fresh installs of my software etc, and all was fine until today
(I got more windows updates to do with .net framework today).

Now, in my Documents and Settings folders I have duplicates of all the
folders except Administrator and with added bits on the end. Now I have
Default User and Default User.WINDOWS, All Users and All Users. WINDOWS, my
user name (which can't be accessed and 'my user name'.'my computer name'
where it seems my files now reside, Local Service and Local Service.NT
AUTHORITY, and Network Service and Network Service.NT AUTHORITY.

My internet connection is a straight forward broadband connection and I have
a simply home network with the other computers in the house (we share the
same broadband router). I looked in Messenger at connection info and it says
I am on a UPnP connection!!!???

None of this makes any sense to me, and I don't believe it was this way
after I did the fresh Windowns install, so somehow somewhere I must have done
somthing strange. Any ideas and suggestions would be appreciated, as I sure
don't want to have to go through all that reinstalling from scratch again.

This is not really my area of expertise as you will see from my sig, but I'm
going to take a WAG. It would appear that you did a repair install and not a
clean install of XP.

Did you notice when installing being asked if you wanted to put this on the
same partition or a new partition? If you did, I think you were doing a
repair install as you shouldn't see that option during a clean install.

You should also see an increase of the space used on your HD. An easy way to
check if you don't remember the size before is to defrag after taking out
the trash. Is the free space about 80% less than it was?
