Hi,

I have Win XP Home Edition.
I am getting the above error (in the blue screen). When I searched the net I
found there are two ways to solve the problem. 1. Insert Win XP cd and
restart the system. 2. Download WinXP_EN_HOM_BF.EXE file in "6 FLOPPY disk"
and run it. Firstly, I do not have Win XP CD. Secondly, my system does not
have any floppy disk to run the exe file. Please let me know is there any
other way to do...by using CD to run the exe file. If yes, please let me know
(or the place from where I can download the Cd version).

I would be greatful to you.

Thanks,

Mohit

Since you don't have a floppy drive you can 1) buy a usb floppy drive
and use the 6 disk set; 2) borrow an XP Home install disk; 3) take the
machine to a local professional computer shop for this easy repair. This
will not be a BigStoreUSA/GeekSquad type of place

Create a bootable CD using the link provided by Harry Ohrn. When the
computer is booted up enter the following command:

CHKDSK C: /R

That will usually fix this particular error.

Good luck

Thanks for your reply. I guess, if I did not get any solution from net then I

I just tried the link and yes there is a file and it downloaded fine for me.
The zip file contains an .iso file of an image of the Windows XP Recovery
Console bootable CD that needs to be burned to a CD using instructions found
here http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/ You can't simply copy the
..iso to CD and expect it to boot.

Thanks for your update Harry!

I have just tried again and I got the same error.

"error [C:\xp_rec_con.zip]: start of central directory not found; Zip file
corrupt.
Possible cause: file transfer error"

Can you make another zip file and send me the link (or mail me) or do I
require some kind of login to get into the www.webtree.ca first and then able
to download the link.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Mohit
