Unmountable_boot_volume

I am getting the error message UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME
STOP: 0X000000ED (0X86C36030,0XC0000185,0X00000000,0X00000000)
It is suggested I restart in safe mode but when I try to do that I still get
the error message and I cant boot windows.
Is there a fix? Please help.

Hi,

Boot the Recovery Console, run chkdsk c: /r from the prompt. To boot the
Recovery Console, boot the system with your WinXP CD and hit "r" when first
prompted, logon to the installation with the administrator password. If this
is not available to you, create the 6 floppy boot set on a working machine
and use them to load the Recovery Console, see additional instructions on my
site: http://rickrogers.org/fixes.htm, these are sufficient to run the
chkdsk routine. If prompted for the location of autochk.exe, indicate
C:\Windows\system32.

Hi,

Yes, that can be normal. I've seen them run for days on large, data filled
drives.
