windows xp home edition
blue screen unmountable boot volume
it won't let me boot in safe mode just goes back to blue screen
and the disc won't boot up

Ah, I know all about that damned blue screen. It's given me a heck of
a lot of grief. It comes up sometimes when you shut the PC off the
"wrong way", by holding the power button rather than using the start
menu and pressign shut down. Of course sometimes you have no choice
when the PC freezes. I hate to tell you this, but I've been told the
only thing you can do when that comes up is wipe the hardrive clean and
restore it to the way it was when you first bought it. You do this
using the Quick Restore CD which you should have somewhere. If you
can't find it or it doesn't work, you can use the Recovery CD, Which
will also get the job done but it's a bigger hassle and takes longer.
If you do use the Recovery CD instead, you'll have a message on the
desktop with options and you'll want to choose to "reseal" the
computer. Setting the internet back up should be quick and painless.
I also do it through control panel-network and internet connections.

Boot to the recovery and issue these 2 commands, pressing <Enter> after
each:

chkdsk /r

fixboot
