I have seen somewhere that the 9600xt has the 9800chip with locked
pipelines. Can some1 plz tell me if this is true and how to unlock the
extra pipelines if it has any.

Thanks Jamie

Well,you heard wrong :)
9600XT can't be unlocked as it physically has only 4pps. YOu could try
OCing it but that woudln't get you very far :)

No - you're thinking of a 9800SE which is a crippled 9800 and sometimes you
can unlock the extra pipelines with either the Omega drivers or a bios mod.

Completely different core. You're thinking of the 9800SE. There's two types
of this, both with 4 pipelines. One's 128bit and the other is 256bit. BIOS
reflashing is necessary to try to enable the other 4 pipelines on the 256bit
card. A 256bit 9800 Pro is under $120 new.

An X800 gto2 from Sapphire would be the best choice as those are
unlockable to X850XT.However shipments of the gto2 are scarce and only
Sapphire makes cards from unlockable chips.
The X1600XT would probably be a better choice than the plain GTO however
nVidia 6800GT is still better than both of the cards at a similar price.
