unknown REAL free disk space....

Here's one for a guru, its messing with my head, and i'm going to give up
(and mabe throw the system) shortly.

Running Windows XP Home, and i have Nortons AV 2003 (so could be the
cause).....

i have a 20GB 'C' Drive for WinXP, and was using about 16GB of it, so i
burnt all my data to CD, and deleted it off the system, emptied recycle bin,
emptied Norton's Protected Files, and i still only have 4GB free on the
disk, and still using 16GB in the properties, however, if i highlight all
the files on the disk there is only 6.5GB of Data, i also have a D, E, & F
hard disks, and no problems on them, only C drive!

If anyone has any idea's would be much appreciated.

Empty the Norton Protected Files also.

i did

does the MS Blaster have anything to do with it? i was infected by it last
night, cleared it, and this is the only outcome i can see so far???
