Hard Drive Free Space

I have three partition hd - 40gB main drive C:, 40gB drive, 80gB drive.
Properties for main drive shows 34gB used, 4gB free.
Opening C: gives list of files totalling only 14 gB.
Temp files are deleted and recycle bin emptied.
All files are un-hidden. Defrag is not necessary.
Any idea where the 20gB of free space has gone?

In System Restore points and/or hibernation file (if enabled).
