Free Space does not reflect size of deleted files

When I delete files off my HD, the amount of free space does not increase
accordingly. I had 4 GB free, then deleted 10 GB worth of files, the HD only
reported 7GB free. After emptying the norton protected recycle bin, it was
up to 14GB like it should have been. The problem occured when I returned to
the computer a few hours later, it was reporting only 59MB free and after
deleting another 3GB and emptying the protected files AGAIN, it is now only
reporting 4GB free. Where did the extra space go to?

I removed over 13GB of data with 4GB free, I should have 17GB of free space,
but i only have 4.

YOU are the best person to find out where YOUR disk
space went because it's YOUR disk. We can't. These
tools might help you:

perhaps you have someone remotely using your PC for file storage. You do
file sharing? Do you have a firewall?

Look to see what's using the space. It sounds like malware to me.

there are a number of possibilities... and if you've made that large
of a change you should see a difference....

Empty your recycle bin, clean disk, clear cookies/temp internet files,
reboot, and see if you notice a change...
