unknown files

I am finding unknown files in the Windows directory such
as $NtServicePackUninstall$ and
$NtUninstallKB821557$. Are these upgrade files that must
remain or can be they be cleaned out??

$NtServicePackUninstall$ will be used if you decide to uninstall XP at any time.
$NtUninstallKB821557$ will be used if you decide to uninstall update 821557.

If you know that you will not want to uninstall these updates, you can delete them.

That is not correct .
$NtServicePackUninstall$ is the service pack uninstall, not Windows XP.
There is no "uninstall" option for XP except formatting the derive and
starting over.

Sorry, my mistake - $NtServicePackUninstall$ is for uninstalling the Service Pack. There could, however, be uninstall information for XP if upgraded from a previous version of Windows.
