Unknown activex - iuengine.dll (?)

R

Rob

Installed new version which cleared up a problem with not seeing system explorers.
However; the following Active X entries shows as "Unknown Active-X"

Microsoft Windows Update Control
Update Control Engine
C:\Windows\System32\iuengine.dll

Any idea as to what is this is?

Thanks.

Sort of threw me when I saw something with "Publisher: Microsoft..." showing up as
"Unknown"

They are fixing some of these with definition changes as time goes on. I
don't know whether this one is considered obsolete and therefore not a
priority, or what.

The development of this product has been in Microsoft's hands for only a
short time--about 3 weeks before the beta began. So--I'm not surprised, but
it is also a good idea to be skeptical!

Interesting, Bill. My older ActiveX for WU shows with a star, for Known.

'Microsoft Windows Genuine Advantage Validation'.
That was downloade when I went through the validation on
downloading a recent update from MS site.

I see both that one and the one Steve referenced, and even the perhaps scary
"Doomchk" (which is a Microsoft control that checks for MyDoom, I believe,
and issues a patch if it is found.

I hope they've got folks working on these things--I'm sure this app is
running on most of the desktops at Microsoft--and they are probably being
inundated with their own internal reports.
