Help, I have recently purchased a new computer with
Windows XP Home Edition preinstalledon it. I have tried it
for over three months and would now like to remove it and
install my Windows 98 on this new machine. If there is
anyone out there who could tell me how to do this i would
reakky appreciate it

Thanks John

Downgrading to windows 98 will most likely void your warranty and technical
support from the oem you bought the computer from. Why is it that you'd like
to go back to a soon to be obsolite operating system? Any problems we can
help you out with in xp?
If you must go backwards, then you will have to format the drive and install
win98.
Boot to a win98 floppy boot disk, run fdisk, delete all partitions, create
new partitions, reboot to the floppy again, run format c:, when format is
done, with win98 cd in drive, type setup at the c:\ prompt.

To purplehaz,
Thanks for your reply, I just do not like the way the
system operates, but I did not realize that 98 would be
obsolete soon

Yes MS will stop support for win98, I believe, at the end of this year.
You're welcome.

Even with XP installed you still have the option to display the classic view
of WIN98. You will however still have untold more security and reliability
of XP over 98. Some times it is tough to learn new tricks but going
backwards really isn't an option. Support for WIN98 is suppose to die in a
year or so. I hope you upgraded from 4 track or 8 track tapes to CD music at
the least. Hang in there you will be much happier with XP once you get a
handle on all the great things it can do for you
Cheers Doug

Greetings --

Before proceeding, though, you'd better take a few minutes to see
if
there are any device drivers for the older OS available for the new
machine. There may not be, if the PC was specifically designed by its
manufacturer for WinXP. Also, check with the PC vendor to determine
whether or not replacing the pre-installed OS will void your warranty
and/or any service agreement(s), as normally the case.

To replace WinXP with an earlier OS, you'll have to boot from the
appropriate boot disk, format the hard drive, and install. There is
no known or supported downgrade path or technique.
