Uninstalling Outlook breaks Windows Mail as default mail program

After reading this:
http://forums.techarena.in/showthread.php?t=675971

I too have discovered that uninstalling Outlook breaks email integration.
Even fixing the "Control->Panel->Default Programs" settings doesn't fix
everything.

If I Start->Run and type " mailto:[email protected] ", the new message
window still comes up as usual.

However, Emailing from Acrobat Reader 7.0, I get a "Acrobat is unable to
connect to your email program" error.

Beforehand, with Outlook still install, everything seems to work. I guess
that's what I get when I choose not to buy the 60 eval version of MS Office!
Ouch!

Update: I installed Thunderbird, set the default email program back to
Windows Mail again and un-installed Thunderbird.

LOW AND BEHOLD, emailing from other applications works again! The new
message windows pops up like normal again.

I have many brand new broke Windows Mail machines. Therefor, I will do a
registry dump on another machine, install/uninstall Thunderbird and compare
the registry changes. Let's see what happens.
