Windows Mail defaults to Outlook for pictures

\When I tried to send pictures directly from my Pictures file by clicking on
the email icon, it would resize them but then send them to Outlook, rather
than Windows Mail, my defualt. I could send pictures by Windows Mail by
inserting them as a file, but then they wouldn't resize them, so it's really
no good for large pictures. I tried many things - including DEFINITELY
making Windows Mail my default, and nearly two hours on the phone with HP
tech support in which he also tried many things - but always the email icon
in the pictures file would default to Outlook. I gave up and switched to
Outlook as my mail program. It is still telling me that Outlook is not my
default, even though I've made it the default and Windows Mail is no longer
working. I would like to switch back to Windows Mail - I don't like Outlook
- but only if someone can find a way to have my pictures files default to
Windows Mail for emailing. Help please??

If you wish to use Windows Mail instead of Outlook, why not remove Outlook?

Go into WM, import any contacts and messages you may have in Outlook.
Then go to Start - Control Panel - Programs & Features
highlight Microsoft Office
click on "Change" if you have other Office products you wish to keep & use
click on "Add or Remove Features"
deselect Outlook
Update

If you anticipate no future use for Outlook you can uninstall it,
but that may not solve your problem. It never hurts to have a
backup email program in case your primary program suddenly
goes haywire.

Just because an email program is designated as 'default'
does not mean that all possible default protocols have been
assigned to it. To ensure the latter, do this:

Open the Default Programs applet, which you can access either from
the Start menu or via the Control Panel, then click the first item:
"Set your default programs."
After a few seconds, a list of programs comes up. Click on Windows
Mail. If it doesn't respond with "This program has all its defaults"
then fix it by clicking on the option indicated by the first green arrow.

Control Panel | Programs
Under the Default Programs heading click "Make a file type always open in a
specified program". Scroll down hear the bottom and make sure MAILTO points
to Windows Mail.

You will have to do this again every time a new update for Outlook is
installed.
