Default MailTo handler for Windows Mail won't work

I have a program (FileMaker Pro) that launches a new email message using OE.
It works the same with Vista except that I had to go into Control Panel ->
Program Defaults and change the deftault email prgram to Windows Mail
instead of the 60-day trial version of Outlook 2003. Ever since I
uninstalled MS Office 2003, the mail handler to Windows Mail doesn't work -
even though everything is still associated with Windows Mail.

Any ideas?
thanks,

Try typing both of these in Start Run

winmail /reg
regsvr32 sendmail

The regsvr32 sendmail command resulted in a missing sendmail ocx or dll
error message. Not suprising though. I think the problem is that the
registry entries such as:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\mailto

as still refering to Outlook 2003 even though that's has already be
uninstalled and that the program defaults (in control panel) have be
re-assigned to Windows Mail.
Somewhere Microsoft has a bug. There are several registry keys still
refering to Outlook.

It might be a security program blocking the Registry change it needs to
make. A few, but not all, of the programs now doing this are:
Ad-aware's Ad-Watch
IBM Access Connections
McAfee VirusScan and/or Antispyware
Norton AV
Spyware Blaster
Spybot> Tools> IE Tweaks
Spybot- Teatimer
Spysweeper
Windows Defender
Zone Alarm (free) 6.5 Reported to be fixed in later versions.

In the case of Zone Alarm 6.5 or Norton 2007 it actually has to be
uninstalled. Make sure the Windows Firewall is turned on until you
reinstall Zone Alarm.

Boot into Safe Mode with Networking and try the change.
