Can't make Windows Mail my default e-mail handler

W

Wildwill

I've tried using Control Panel where I can't find Windows Mail as an option
for default e-mail handler.
Tried changing by accessing Properties from Windows Mail but when I change
to "Make this the defalut e-mail handler, apply and save then exit and return
to Properties the setting has returned to Not the default e-mail handler.
I'm using Windows Vista Home Premium.
Note:
Control panel does show Windows mail as being the Default Newsgroup handler.
Thanks

Start menu > Default Programs >Set Your Default Programs > highlight Windows
Mail. Click " Set this program as default "
After that, make sure the line above says This program has all its defaults.

I tried that earlier. When I > Start menu > Default Programs >Set Your
Default Programs >...Windows Mail (News) shows but not Windows Mail. When I
follow the menu options they all relate to Newsgroups.
Thx

If this does not help, then I am stumped :
Start Menu > Default Programs > Set program access and computer defaults >
prompt > Custom > far right side of Custom, click the double pointers >
under Choose a default e-mail program, what do you see ? select Windows Mail

Under that menu all I see is:
Choose default e-mail program:
Use current default e-mail. which is selected. There are no options shown.
Any further thoughts?

No there is nothing else.
Under Media there are several selections, but just Use current default
e-mail. which is selected under e-mail.
Strange Huh?

How long since this happened ?
What were you using for e-mailing ? You have another e-mail program ?
I am about to suggest Windows Live Mail, but I'd like to hear the answers of
above questions.

One or more options/settings in an ever-growing number of third-party
applications may be disallowing the changes from "sticking." These include
anti-spyware applications (e.g., Ad-aware's Ad-Watch, Spybot Tea Timer,
SpywareBlaster, SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor, CounterSpy, WinPatrol, etc),
anti-virus applications & security suites (Norton, McAfee, ESET/NOD32,
Kasperky, Trend Micro, etc.), and third-party firewalls (e.g., Zone Alarm,
etc.).

Note that temporarily disabling the application(s) or rebooting into Safe
Mode may not disable the application's system protections.

See

Ignore the add's.

Look for mailclients.reg in the attachments section.

Follow the instructions for mailclients.reg

I use Windows Mail for e-mailing and it works fine as a stand alone program
however, because it is not the default e-mail handler, (and I'm not sure
anythiing else is!) I cannot use the "send to" function in many other
applications, for example MS word or Pressreader to send items or excerpts to
e-mail contacts. When I attempt this one of two things happen:
Nothing or,
A message that indicates either my "default e-mail program is not properly
installed" or Can't be found.

OK. Don't waste any more time on my reply.
Go to mac's reply, use the link he gave you. It should fix your problem.

Used Mac's suggestion and now have Windows Mail as default hopefully this
will solve other related problems mentioned
Thx

Great. If some related problems arise, suggest you start a new thread. This
one is too long and case closed.
