Uninstalling Norton Antivirus

D

damsel

Hello to anyone who can help me.
I bought Norton Antivirus 2004 in January to upgrade from
my 2003 but after I had installed it I had to do a system
recovery and since then I have not been able to reinstall
it.
My pre-install scanner says that I have not got any
viruses.
The error message says Nort Antiv 2004 installation has
failed -- the installation encountered an error and was
unable to complete the installation, and that's it.
I believe that I have to uninstall Norton completely and I
have got the uninstall tools from Symantec, but they tell
me to back up the registry first.
Windows XP does not come with a registry backup tool as
default, and I do not have the Windows XP home edition
disk to install it manually.
Does anybody know where I can get a backup tool from?
Is it absolutely necessary to backup the registry before I
attempt the Norton uninstall?
Am I making myself clear?
Please e-mail me with help some kind person.
Damm.
