Uninstalling Norton Anti Virus problem

I have reached about 90% of the uninstalling (indicator on bar) and the script says "Removing duplicate files" and it remains stationary
Checking the Task Manager shows the CPU being used 100% with 99% against "msiexexe"
Leaving it for hours does not finish the uninstall.
What is happening and how do I proceed please?

Try using the uninstall utility from the Symantec website for the
version of NAV at issue.
 
Welcome to the wonderful world of current "Norton" products. try it
again in safe mode, or recheck the uninstallation procedure posted on
the Norton web site.
