Uninstalling Encyclopedia Britannica Application Problem

P

PeteB

I have WinXP Home on my PC. I've Encyclopedia Britannica 2001 installed and
I'm having a problem uninstalling as I rarely use it and the full app takes
up about 1.2Gb of space. I try doing it the normal way: control panel/add or
remove programs. When I start the uninstall I'm firstly asked whether I want
to remove shared files and I say no to the options, not knowing whether they
are shared or not. The procedure then stalls and I have to CTRL+ALT+DEL to
stop the procedure.
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can overcome this? Should be simple
but it has me stumped.
Thanks

What happens if you say "yes" to the shared files? You can make a System
Restore point before you try to uninstall.

Hi Malke,
Just tries to do the uninstall again and a message window appeared "Unable
to locate the installation log file 'C:\Program
files\Britannica\2001\b2001de.isu' Uninstallation will not continue"
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Hi Pete,

Is safe practice to always save shared files, even though directed not in
use. Actually, NO is generally tabbed already for you as a choice.

As per your issue, that particular error message, generally means that you
have tried to previously uninstall the program either before reaching add or
remove or the uninstall seemed to fail via the folder. Either way, check
the areas mentioned here and good luck!

Hi Kelly,
Thanks for the reply. I managed to find the installation CD, reinstalled and
then it allowed me to remove as normal. You were totally correct that I had
tried to remove the app ages ago and it failed leaving it partially
installed. At that time I had reverted the hard drive to before the
uninstall and I had just left it as it was for a few months. It was only
last night I attempted again and thought I should seek expert advice this
time.
Thank you anyway (I've bookmarked your site for future reference).
