Uninstalling Drivers ?

D

Derek

I am thinking of updating my graphics card drivers for the very first time.
I have had the computer a while now and now seems as good a time as any.
(WinXP SP2 - Athlon 64 3200+ - 1 gig RAM)
I have downloaded and extracted the drivers into a directory on my 'C'
drive, ready to run the setup program.
Most places I have visited suggest that I remove all the old drivers...
however

When I go to the Add/Remove Programs and select the ATI Display Drivers
A box pops up and asks me which drivers I want to uninstall.
There are four lots of drivers, which look like this:

SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600 ATLANTIS SECONDARY PCI SECONDARY 6.14.10.6430
2.24.2004
SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600 ATLANTIS AGP PRIMARY
6.14.10.6430 2.24.2004
RADEON 9600 SERIES SECONDARY N/A N/A
6.14.10.6404 12.2.2004
RADEON 9600 SERIES N/A
N/A 6.14.10.6404 12.2.2004

Do I uninstall all 4 sets of drivers ?

Also there are two other ATI programs in the Add/Remove Programs
1. ATI Software Uninstall Utility & 2. ATI Control Panel.
Do I uninstall these two as well ?

As I said, this is my first attept at updating the drivers, and it's a bit
scarry, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

TIA
Derek

If you use that util it will do it all for you. If you don't have a
shortcut to it in the ati menus, try looking at C:\ati something

Or maybe C:\Program Files\ati ....

The actual executable should be named something like atiblahUn.exe
where that `blah' part may be different on differnet cards but the
`..Un.exe' will be the tipoff.

I have gone from an AIW9800 Pro to a GF3 Ti200 to a X800 Pro sucessfully.

I generally uninstall the drivers from the controll panel. You then can
run the cat uninstaller found here - I only needed to do that once during a
driver update that failed due to a power glitch
http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/misc/catalystutils.html.

I then boot in safe mode and run driver cleaner 3 as per the instructions.
Be sure and unplug your network.

I have been using the new and beta drivers without CCC without a problem
