My cousin installed winxp over win98. She dosen't like XP and she would like
to go back to 98. Is there a way she can revert back to 98 without
reformating her hard drive?

How you can go back really depends on you she got to Windows XP..

Was it a true upgrade and did she not convert from FAT32 to NTFS?

If it was not an upgrade install (done from inside Windows) then a clean
install may be your only choice.

As a general rule, you can't uninstall an operating system. You
have to reformat the drive and install another operating system
cleanly.

There's an exception to that, however. If you did an upgrade from
Windows 98 or Me, and took the option to save the previous
operating system and also did not convert your drive to NTFS,
then you can find an entry in Add/Remove Programs. Clicking on
that will uninstall Windows XP and revert to the previous
operating system.

If there's no entry in Add/Remove Programs, then one or more of
those conditions wasn't met, and her only choice is to reformat.

Try to encourage your cousin to give XP a two month trial. Then if she wants
to return to the dark ages, she can still try the methods presented by the
others.

One thing your cousin may not like about XP is the XP "style."
You can get rid of this wasteful distraction:
Right-click on the Desktop
Select Properties
On the Appearance tab, make sure "Windows and Buttons" says "Windows Classic
Style"
Click Apply and OK.

She decided to keep XP.
