Not only that but Vista format does something to the HDD that makes it
incompatible with XP. You have to destroy the partition(s) and then format
with XP and not Vista if you want to go back to XP.
And do not assume that the manufacturer has drivers XP to use
on your system. Often a manufacturer will offer a method to
change OS as is usually the case when possible with Vista.
You don't normally "uninstall" any operating system.
You simply format the drive and install whatever other operating
system you want. However note that that entails the loss of
*everything* on the drive, so if there's anything you want to keep,
back it up first.
To install, say Windows XP, you will need a retail version.
My assumption is that you don't like it. Try it a while, I believe that it
will grow on you. Folks had the same learning curve when migrating from
Windows 98 to Windows XP.
