Uninstall Windows Defender (Vista Ultimate)

I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and Microsoft Defender is installed by
default. I want to uninstall it but it doesn't even show up in the Programs &
Features list (Uninstall or change a program window). How do I go about to
fully uninstall that program.

thank you

You can't. It's an integrated part of the operating system, not a
separate application. What you *can* do is to disable it:

"Turn Windows Defender on or off"

Hi,

You can't uninstall it, you can only disable it. Run msconfig from the
start/search line, check the startup tab.

I think a much better - and possibly more permanent - way is to
disable it in Administrative Tools/Services.

Thank you everyone. I am a little bit shocked to hear that you "cannot"
uninstall an application that used to be opitonal and now is forced into your
os.

But you're not forced to keep it running so quit whining.

Hi,

It's deeply embedded into the OS in order to exact the control it needs to
perform its function. As stated, you can disable it, though that's not
generally recommended unless you have a third party tool to scan for and
remove malware. Once disabled, it has no more affect on the system than if
it were uninstalled.

Just a curious note to add to this as well: If you had it installed under XP
and upgraded to Vista, the uninstall function from XP is carried over and
you can remove it, but then you'll find that you can't reinstall it later
either.

Thank you Rick,

The laptop I have came with Vista preinstalled (brand new), however that is
great feedback. I'll keep that in mind.

You don't. It's built into Vista.

You mean it's part of Microsoft crap you can't uninstall. You can't
uninstall other Microsoft crap either like the long time broken
Windows Explorer and Media Player.

I wonder why that is.

Translation: adam albright can't get his one little install of Vista
Business to run properly (he's mentally handicapped) so he hates
MS/Vista and everyone else who are having a good experience with Vista.

It really is pitiful that Frank (an old fool with a IQ below 60) is
such a idiot he can't come up with anything new and needs to repeat
the same tired crap a thousand times. You got to be the biggest mental
midget on the planet.

Poor monkeys? They looked happy to me. ;-)

You were expecting to see pictures of animals wearing clothes?

PLEASE, never tune in the Animal Channel on cable. They show animals
"doing it" all the time, and oh my God, animals killing and eating
each other.

You really lead a sheltered life don't you.

You're REALLY are a idiot. Oh... we established that a long time ago
didn't we.

I'll whisper so nobody else hears. I hope you don't like hamburgers,
because they're made from cows. They KILL them.

FUKK!!! Now we know where adam albright hangs out...the ZOO!!!

Damn Frank, you really love to show the world how mentally challenged
you are on EVERY topic. You're so damn stupid you can't even craft a
proper insult.

Cows aren't found at zoos doofus. Most zoos focus on the more exotic
animals you are unlikely to come across locally. You see Frank cows
are domesticated animals who's milk is sold in stores, and made into
dairy products. Maybe you should write that bit of information down
for future reference you boastful prick without a brain.
