I purchased a used compaq persario 5240 computer.It has
windows 2000 professional o/s installed on it. However
there are several hardware conflicts. The computer was an
as is purchase and did not come with the o/s cd. In
checking with compaq they did not support win. 2000 and do
not recomend any o/s above win 98 se. the current problem
is that the com ports, lpt1 port, sound, and internet card
are disabled. When I go to the device manager it tell me
that the devices are diabled by the bios because they are
not compatable with win 2000. I have two question.

does anyone know how to enable these devices with the
current o/s system.

my last choice is to uninstall win. 2000 prof. however I
can not find an uninstall file. Does anyone know where to
find the uninstall file. I need to uninstall the o/s
without lossing the other files on the h.d.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is no uninstall. To wipe the drive, some ways include; boot a win98
startup disk, run fdisk and delete all partition information found (as long
as NTFS is primary). Or boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks and when
you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found, then abort the install. Or use a utility named delpart. Once removed
you can partition and format the drive as you wish. Boot the Win98 CD-Rom or
restore CD-Rom to start your install.
