uninstall sp1 via recovery console

Danny Anderson

When I tried to install Windows XP Service Pack 1, the
computer froze at some point in the download/installation.

On the reboot, I get the BSOD with a stop error message of
c000021a: Windows Logon Process System terminated
unexpectedly with a status of 0x00000080.

I want to uninstall SP1 using the Recovery Console. I can
use the Console to access the $NtServicePackUninstall$
directory- what do I do next?

Thanks,
Danny

Depending on the hardware, you may not be able to uninstall SP1. On Dell
systems, you will have to reformat and reinstall the OS an you might get the
machine to function again. In general, do not use the system restore to
attemp to go back to a pre-SP1 state, this also is a known bug in SP1. Your
best bet is to tinker via safe mode if you have some idea what you are
doing, otherwise a OS reinstall is the easiest option.
