Uninstall .Net Framework 2.0 Beta fails

I can not uninstall .Net Framework 2.0 Beta either from instal.exe or from
control panel unistall. I get the same error that another version is
installed and to use the Control Panel. How do I unistall this Beta? I get:
MSI (s) (3C:A0) [14:34:10:062]: Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 Beta
-- Configuration failed.

MSI (s) (3C:A0) [14:34:10:078]: MainEngineThread is returning 1638
Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this
version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this
product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

That did not work. I already tried to run "msiexec /x
{71F8EFBF-09AF-418D-91F1-52707CDFA274}" from a command line window. It said
that I had to locate a netfx.msi file to uninstall. All the netfx.msi files I
have it says are not valifd install files for .net framework 2.0. Now what do
I do?

You can get the original msi by extracting it from the Dotnetfx.exe
from which you installed the Framework.

I believe the command line switch is /x to extract, check around.

I tried this but all of the netfx.msi files that I found to extract it said
that they were not valid .Net framework installs. Now what do I do? Where can
I find the proper netfx.msi file it wants? Can you send it to me?

read the text!!!!!
actually (and it's explained) there is a link to a blog which itself
contains another link to another blog with an uninstall tool.

no joking! I had VS.NET 3005 install issues and this (quite undirectly
found) uninstall tool solved my problem.

Whoa Nellie!
VS.NET 3005! I don't think I'll need to worry about uninstalling that
one, when it finally comes around....

I did read the text and I did run the VS 2005 Cleanup utility but it says
that "the feature you are trying to use is a network resource that is
unavailable." It is still looking for a netfx.msi file that I do not have. I
have two netfx.msi file on my machine but it does not like either one of
those. It says that they are not valid installs. Now what do I do? How do I
unistall .Net 2.0 Beta? Where do I get this netfx.msi file that it is looking
for? Please help.

I am trying to install July CTP of VS 2005. It fails because .Net 2.0 Beta is
installed. All attempts to uninstall .Net 2.0 Beta fail because netfx.msi
file is missing. VS 2005 Cleanup utility fails because netfx.msi file is
missing. The .Net Framework 2.0 Beta Cleanup tool completes without error but
..Net 2.0 Beta is STILL installed after it runs and the system is rebooted.
..Net 1.0 and 1.1 were removed but not 2.0 Beta. How do I unistall .Net 2.0
Beta? Where do I get this netfx.msi file that the uninstall wants? It is not

I know this won't help anyone who's already installed the beta, but for
others about to install it, I -=>HIGHLY<=- recomend installing it into a
virtual machine using either VMWare or VirtualPC. You can completely avoid
these problems... plus get tons of other major advantages.

My condolences to dbaechtel...
