My reply is at the bottom of your sent message:
How do I uninstall Windows Media Player 9 in Windows XP SP1?

From the Microsoft site:

How to uninstall in Windows Millennium Edition, Windows XP Home Edition, or
Windows XP Professional
Use System Restore in Windows. Windows Media Player 9 Series will be removed
and the previous version of the Player will be restored. Any CD tracks
copied to your computer will remain, and the previous version of Windows
Media Player will be able to play this audio content. For more information
about System Restore, see Windows Help.

A system restore would only cause me to reinstall other programs.

My system came with Windows Media Player 9 in Windows XP SP1. I read in
the URL that there is no uninstaller. This is absurd.

Gotta do it manually!!
Why incur risk & work to save ~25MB?
Just deassociate all file types & ignore it.

Any advise is my attempt to contribute more than I have received but I can only assure you that it works on my PC. GOOD LUCK.

You can remove it from the "add/remove windows components" section in
add/remove programs, but i do not know if that actually uninstalls it.
