Hi Dan,

Make sure you are logged into an Administrator account within Windows XP

1. Open Control Panel
2. Double-click "Add or Remove Programs". The "Add or Remove Programs"
window will open.
3. Make sure that "Show updates" is ticked at the top of that window.
4. Scroll down to "Windows XP - Software Updates", beneath which you'll see
a long list of all the updates.
5. Locate "Security Update for Windows XP (KB908531)" and click on it.
6. A "Remove" button should now appear on the right-hand side of that row.
Click it and follow the instructions.

I hope that helps.

Execute...

%windir%\$NtUninstallKB908531$\spuninst\spuninst.exe

Thank you so much. I'm somewhat of a novice and I was able to follow your
clear instructions. KB908531 has been deleted and the problems I had
disappeared. Thanks again.
Dan

Excuse me David but when you say execute should I click Start Run and then
type in what you posted (%windir etc..).
Dan
I followed Gareth's instructions and my pc is responding like it did before
I d/l KB908531.
Only problem left is that I have that update waiting to be executed again in
my task bar.

Yes you would copy and paste that command line into the "Run" location.

If you did the alternate mathos and nothing has changedm, then the patch may NOT be the
cause of your problem(s).
