Uninstall from old PC and and then reinstall on new PC

I am building a new computer and want to uninstall Windows XP (Home ed.) from
the old computer and do a new fresh install on the new computer. The old
computer is to be junked with no operating system on it. I have a boxed
retail version of Win XP Home.

When I go to install/reinstall Win XP on the new computer what should I
expect with respect to the activation process? Will I need to call Microsoft
first, or after, or not at all?

I've done some research on this site and haven't found an answer to this
particular question.

Thanks in advance...

what you might want
to do is to retain the
hd and maybe install
it on your new pc...

Probably not at all. If it's been over 120 days since last activation, it
should activate over the internet just as it did the first time.

But even if you have to activate by phone, it's not a real problem. It's
normally a quick and easy call to an 800 number.

Research using Google?

If you have not activated that copy in 120 days or more - expect it to go
flawlessly and painlessly. You will install it - carefully typing in the
product key - and activate it over the Internet.

If you have activated that copy in 120 days or less - expect the
installation to go flawlessly and painlessly. You will install it -
carefully typing in the product key - and you *may* have to activate it by
making a phone call and entering/repeating a whole SLEW of numbers to an
automated system.

Ken,

Thanks, it's been over 4 years since I installed and activated the product
so I'll just go ahead and reinstall it and call if I have to.

Yes, researched using Google. But most of the advice found on the Internet
seemed to be of the kind concerning folks who were adding or changing
hardware configurations rather than doing a complete uninstall and then
reinstall. I'll simply install the product on the new PC and see how it goes.
As I told Ken it's been 4 years since the product was first activated.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

Yes, there should be no problem activating it.
