Unidentified Internet Connection Icon

Hello.

Win XP Pro, SP2, LinkSys WRT54g router.

I don't know when it started, but somehow, i have an Unidentified Internet
Connection icon in my Network Connections/Internet Gateway. If i look at
the properties for it, it only has a General tab with a Settings button.
When i click on the Settings button, it shows a dialog where i can add
services.

I also still have the regular Local Area Connection under Lan or High-Speed
Internet. If i try to disable it, the Unidentified Internet Connection icon
dissappears and i lose internet. Once, i reenable the Local Area
Connection, the Unidentified Internet Connection icon reappears and i'm back
in business.

All of the computers on the router do the same thing.

Does anybody have any idea of what that is ? Should/can i do anything about
it ?

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

That is the default gateway. The IC wizard sets that up if you tell it you
connect through a residential gateway device. Leave it alone, it causes no
harm.

possibly connected itself to a nearby wifi network?.. you can open up
my network places and it will tell you whatconnections you have, if you
dont need it then right click on it and select disable. if its a wired
connection i would just delete it.. but sounds like wifi to me.

Just curious. Why did it all of a sudden show up after all these years of
Win XP ?

There is a "My Web Sites on MSN". Can i safeley that ? I hate MSN stuff on
my computer.

Did someone by chance lose the connection and rerun the internet connection
wizard? The only time I see that gateway device show up is if "I connect
through a residential gateway device" is selected while running the IC
Wizard.

Check the documentation that came with your router. This
happens if UPnP is enabled through the router's web interface.

I've noticed the same thing. Just all of a sudden it showed up. In my case,
when I go to check the status on it, the status box flashes and disappears.
If the computer is real busy, it may stay for a second or two. Like they
say, it dosn't appear to affect anything, just annoying.
