Hello,Cayman,

You have Blaster/MSBlast/Lovesan-call it what you
will.Welcome to the darkside of computing. It's an RPC
exploit. That means,it will enter your computer through
a "hole" just because you are online.

Enable the XP firewall,if you can-Blaster does prevent
this, however,so if you cannot turn it on because the
settings are inaccessible/greyed out etc..go straight to
the following site:

Fix available here:

http://www.norman.com/Virus/Virus_removal_tools/11359/en

You could also run Stinger (Best saved to
floppy):

stinger:
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Disconnect from the Internet,if you can, while you run the
fixes.

After either of these devices have deleted the Blaster
files,enable the firewall immediately.Then run a full
online scan of your O.S. at any of the locations below:

Trend:
http://housecall.antivirus.com
http://housecall.trendmicro.com

McAfee:
http://www.mcafee.com/myapps/mfs/default.asp

Panda:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

If offered an option to clean or delete, opt for
delete.

I am sorry your first day on the net was such a baptism
of fire.

P.S.And go straight to the Windows Update site and
download ALL the patches marked as "critical",or you will
be hit by something worse!

Windows update is accessible from a link in the start
menu.Press the btton marked "start" in the bottom
lefthand corner of the screen.Click on "Windows Update".

Thanks Sadie, I've downloaded stinger and followed all
instructions. Next is the online scan. I've been
computing for over ten years, though, but am no less
grateful.
