I can't tell for sure what the problem is (sorry) but my advice is, turn on
personal firewall...

You can use any personal firewall on your PC that you feel comfortable with.
There are some pretty good Free ones out there and WindowsXP come with built
in one. This is how you turn it on:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;283673

For more information about ICF:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321050

If you like some other free versions of personal firewalls check out:
http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm
http://www.tinysoftware.com/
http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/home.jsp

Also make sure you have latest patches on your PC (www.windowsupdate.com).

I hope this helps you out.

I started getting the same thing today after we got our cable service
moved to our new apartment. The guy left the cable modem plugged
directly into the PC, rather than through my router. As a result, I
got hit with an RPC attack. Hadn't heard of it before, but it is
apparently quite common. I think there are different ones, but I was
able to get into the registry to
localmachine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run and delete
'msblast.exe'

It should show up in task manager, too (so you may be able to kill it
before the restart occurs.

I then scanned with mcafee and it found msblast.exe on my system.

Mcafee's site has more info on this and there are some articles at
places like cnet: http://news.com.com/2100-1009_3-5059263.html (search
on rpc bot)

So far this is what I have found and the virus was in the
computer.

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32
..blaster.worm.html

follow the instruction and make sure U unable your
firewall in WinXP. Ther is a link also to download a
Microsoft patch.
If U don't have enough time before it shuts down ask a
friend to download it for you it will fit on a Floppy.

Good luck
