Unexpected shutdown

I bought a Compaq Presario (laptop) on May 27, 2002. It
unexpectedly shuts down about four times a year, but
after several attempts, I am usually able to recover my
computer. It shut down unexpectedly again two days ago,
and it will not let me restore it. It just shuts down in
the process. Does anyone know how to fix this problem??

Amanda, were you able to get to System Restore and it shutdown again
during the process?
