Undo saved changes to a photo file

Does anyone know of a way to undo saved changes to a
photo file? The photo was cropped in another program (HP
Album Printing - came with my HP Photosmart 7960 printer.
I've already contacted HP and they were no help). That
program saved the cropped image over the original file,
replacing it. I didn't want the cropped image to be
saved - I want the original back (the changes were made
upon exiting the program - there is no "undo" feature in
it). I know the date and time the photo was changed. I've
looked at system recovery (I didn't actually do it) but
it seems to NOT apply to the personal files (including
photos) which is exactly what I want to recover. Any
ideas would be most appreciated!

FIRST- check the Recycle Bin - if you haven't emptied it. Not there?

Click on "START'
"Search"
"All files and folders'
All or part of a file name: Enter: *.tmp
Select the Drive you want it to search c:, d:, e: etc.
Click on "More advanced options"
Check "seach hidden files and folders"
Then "Search"

Look through the results for your file: "MarkDavis01.jpg" will be
"MarkDavis01.tmp"
IF, I reiterate: IF you find it, open it, choose SAVE AS; change the file
NAME to "MarkDavis001" or "MarkDavis01x" THEN the extension BACK to what it
is supposed to be and save to the original folder- after VERIFICATION you
can then delete the 'cropped picture'.

BTW: Was that "other program": ThumbsPlus? I've used it since Windows for
Workgroups 3.11, yes, the 16Bit ThumbsPlus. We didn't have "recovery" in
WfW. . . UNLESS we set up "Undelete", therefore, I, to this day, still
create a BACKUP FOLDER of the folder I am working in.

No, the program was called HP Album printing (or AP Photo
Printing Software) - the name I see in the start menu is
different from the title bar when the program is open). I
contacted HP and they said "it's gone" so I'm guessing
I'm totally out of luck. Thanks for the suggestion though.
