underlining case law

When I type Ctrl U (underline) as I type a case law, after I've finished
typing it and type Ctrl U (to stop the underline), the last word that should
be underlined isn't. I am using Word 2007. This was a problem with the
previous version of Word, but they somehow were able to fix it with an
update. This happens even if I'm only underlining one word.

I can't replicate that problem here. The 2nd press of Ctrl+U correctly
terminates underlining, and does not affect the word just typed.

What happens if you start Word in safe mode? (Hold down Ctrl as Word is
starting) Does the problem still occur in safe mode?

Herb,

Thank you for your answer to my question regarding underlining case law. I
think I’ve accidentally discovered the solution to my problem.

I went into Word Options, Editing Options, and UNCLICK the “Automatically
Select Entire Word.†Now, I have no idea what this has to do with my
problem, but it fixed it! I just LOVE surprises!

Maybe someone else will have this problem too (it not only applies to
underlining, but using bold & italics too) and you’ll have an answer for them.

Thank you again for researching this.

I actually suspected that setting as a possible culprit, but it doesn't
behave the same way here as you indicated. There must be something different
you're doing that I'm not doing, such that I couldn't replicate the problem.
In any event, I'm glad it's solved for you.
