Shortcut Keys

Hi,

We have MS Office 2003 and Windows XP in a network environment. Is there a
setting that affects the following situation:

I use shortcut keys to turn attributes like italics, underline, and bold on
and off.

If I turn on underline using CTRL + U, for example, and then want to turn it
off before punctuation (e.g., period or comma), I hit CTRL + U again at the
end of the word just before the punctuation.

But then I lose the underline for the entire word before the period or
comma. I am assuming MSWord does this because it considers the punctuation
as part of the word -- so when I hit CTRL + U again, it turns off underlining
for the whole word.

The funny thing is that sometimes this happens and sometimes it doesn't. So
I can't figure out if there is a setting that determines if and when this
happens.

Hopefully I explained this okay.

Many thanks,
Rosemary

Tinker with the settings for "smart selection" on the Edit tab of Tools |
Options, especially the "When selecting, automatically select entire word"
setting.
