Unchecking "display friendly http error message" hangs IE

Running IE 6 on Windows 2000 pro.

Everytime I try to uncheck the "Display friendly http error messages", IE
hangs and I have to kill it.

If this IE setting modifies a registry setting, maybe I can just do it
manually. Any ideas?
