Uncheck "Always ask before opening this type of file" does not work

Just upgraded our office to Windows 2000 and Office XP. A
couple of users have a problem with opening attachments.

If they uncheck the "always ask before opening this type
of file" box, the next time they go to open the same type
of document, it asks the question again!

Any ideas?

This behaviour is correct. In order to change this you need to log on as
with administrator priviledges since the change is computerbased and not
user based.
