UNC Path - folder is empty

I am running Windows Vista Home Professional and using a Linksys WRT350N
wireless router with the USB storage link. Attached to the router, I have a
Western Digital 500GB Essential Edition USB external hard drive.

I created a share to the external hard drive in the router interface and am
able to access the folder and files from one of my other machines running XP.
However, when I try to use my Vista machine, I can see the share, but can
not see the folders or files in the share when browsing from the Network
window. The only way I can access the folders and files is if I map a
network drive letter (such as M:) to the share. Only then can I actually
access the files using the mapped drive letter (it works great I might add).

This is fine for most things/apps, however, for applications that use the
UNC path rather than the mapped network drive letter to point to the drive,
they can not can't see the files. For example, I want to use Window Media
Player to monitor and add music, videos, and pictures that I have stored on
the NAS, but when I add the folders to watch, Windows Media Player converts
the mapped network drive (M:\MyBook\Music\) to the unc path
(\\MyBook\Music\). Once it uses the unc path, then it just thinks the
folders are empty when, in fact, they are filled with tons of music and
pictures. As a result, I can not see, play, or use a media exteneder (XBOX
360) to play the music on my NAS.

Same goes if I type \\MyBook\Music on the search/command line...it's just
opens the windows browser and the folder is empty. If I type
M:\MyBook\Music, I can see all the sub-folders and files on the drive.

Does anyone know how to fix the problem with the empty UNC path problem?

I am using the most up-to-date firmware on the router, and I've already
changed the security policy for LAN Manager to Send LM & NTLM... (basically,
changed it from 0x3 to 0x1 in the registry)

I've emailed Linksys about the issue, but they haven't been of any help
yet...I thought maybe I could get some help from other frustrated Vista Users!

Hi there,

Any luck with this issue?

I was able to at least see the share when I enabled send LM and NTLM,
but now I can only see folders and files if I map to the share...so,
same as you guys...

thanks

Same issue. I also can not use the USB drive attached to the Linksys WRT350N
for One Care backups.

Any help would be greatly apprecaited.
