unavailable word files

hi guys

just reinstalled windows xp and ofiice 2003 professional on my computer but
when i try and open my word files, word says that document is unavailible.
This happens to all word files on my computer.

any help please???

i am not running norton antivirus. when i close word it asks me if i want to
save changes to normal.dot. it then says changes have been made to the global
template, Normal.dot and asks if i want to save the changes

Throw your computer against the wall. No.. not really... Check to see if Word
has loaded a ton of temp files. The junky things have caused me problems in
the past. Sounds like a file lock issue. These files generally take the
following form: ~unexplainablename.tmp
