Can't open a word document

Tried to open a word document (Word 03) on my desktop computer (double
clicking it) and couldn't open it. (Actually all the documents in the file
won't open.)
I tried to open it by right-clicking on it and used "open with" and clicked
on MS Word and got a message, the first part said:
"The file you tried to open was not found. It may be missing, in a different
location, locked by another application, or unavailable due to file
permissions."
The only thing I can think of to stop it from opening is "file permissions,"
what are they and how do you change them?

When you're saying that all the documents "in the file" won't open, do you
mean a specific folder? I am suspecting that this folder is in a location
where the full filepath including the filename may get too long for windows
to handle it. It's only happened to me with Excel files so far but may be
worth trying pulling the whole folder into a location closer to the root
(either C:drive or in your profile, i.e. desktop much not much further down
the line).
