Unable to view the vedio in .avi file in Windows Media Player 9

I cannot view the video in the .avi file in Windows Media Player 9.
My friend has the same version... and can open the same file with it.
what should i do?

Hello,

You need to have the required codec to play AVI files.

Use this program - http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ - to identify the codec
required to play the file. Google the name and you should be able to
download the codec required to play the file. Or, post the name here and we
can help you find a link to the proper codec download.

Alternatively, you can download codec packs such as K-Lite [
http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm ] that come with many other codecs
required to play the majority of video formats in the web. We recommend that
you download only the codec you need as outlined in the previous paragraph.
