Unable to view the event viewer(2000 Server)

Dave Wielgosz

For some time now when I open up the event viewer and
click on the system viewer, I don't get to see the system
events. It is completely empty. Sometimes with the
application viewer I see the application logs and
sometimes I don't. Does anyone have any suggestions? Your
help on this would be greatly appreciated.

The temporary fix;
You might try changing the file properties to "Overwrite as needed"

Else; Control Panel|Administrative Tools|Services|Event Log Service|General,
set the "Startup Type:" to "Disabled" restart the pc, then delete (or move)
the corrupt *.evt file(s) from %windir%\system32\config then set the Event
Log Service "Startup Type:" back to "Automatic", restart for effect.

The more permanent fix;

Your second suggestion worked perfectly to solve what had
been a very perplexing problem. The last suggestion would
have required me to pay a $240.00 fee and hope that I
would have the support fee rescinded ( if I read the
details on the microsoft site correctly). Thank you very
much.
