unable to view email attachements

I am using mcfee, diabled email scanning, closed window mail, restarted still
facing the same problem for .xls files. Strangely, do not have this problem
for other type of file like .doc, .pdf etc.
A solution for pps and doc files is available on link

but no solution has been provided for .xls files.

Sorry, I haven't seen a fix for .xls files.
It is always best to save the attachment, then open it outside of Windows Mail.

Please someone help.
I am unable to view quite a lot of email attachements because I keep
getting a message saying " this file does not have a programme associated
with it, create an association in the set associations panel"
I simply can't do it so can someone please give me a basic step by step
instruction PLEASE.
