I am unable to use standby function after performing repair installation of
windows XP professional.

You haven't given us enough information to help you. As a guess,
whatever was wrong in the system that caused you to do a Repair Install
is still broken after the Repair Install. Back up your data, make sure
the hardware is good, and do a Clean Install.

have you installed all your drivers? becuase when a friend of mine
reinstalled xp it would not let him use standby and hibernate until he
installed his graphics drivers.
so if you have not all ready done so, reinstall your drivers.
