Standby Mode Windows XP and Remote Desktop Connection

Tech Question

We are using Windows XP Professional and we are planning to deploy standby
mode however, we are looking into specific behavior for all users who are
part of our Remote Desktop Group users.

The expected behaviors is as follows;

1. To allow Remote Desktop users to access computer under standby mode
directly, regardless of the standby mode activation.

2. Enable standby computers to be pingable over the network.

The question is how we setup these behaviors in Windows XP and Active
Directory and what are the registry keys affected to set these 2 requirements
mentioned above.

Thanks,
Horacio

Your machines need to support WOL (wake-on-lan) in the BIOS and have a
network card that does also if not integrated. You will also need
third-party admin software to send the 'magic' packets needed for
wake-on-lan, such as 'PowerTask' or 'Prof Shutdown v 3.2' (despite the
name). This being the only way to make suspended state (regardless of
state) machines to respond to remote requests of any sort. The settings for
this are in the BIOS and not the OS. Though, replying to ping requests can
be disabled by a firewall, Windows firewall permits them by default.
